Latest Classification of Diabetes.

 Since time immemorial we’ve classified Diabetes into two major categories, Type 1 & 2. However there were updates to the classification of Diabetes Which followed the addition of Type 1.5 (KPD & LADA), MODY, Type 3 & 4. For elaboration of the aforementioned types of Diabetes click here.

The most recent classification has a different yet simple nomenclature. Today the different types of Diabetes are classified as follows:

  1. SAID - Severe Auto-Immune Diabetes: It is nothing but the Type 1 Diabetes where the antibodies can be found.
  2. SIDD- Severe Insulin Deficiency Diabetes: This is also a type 1 diabetes but the antibodies are not found.
  3. SIRD- Severe Insulin Resistance Diabetes: This is is a classic Type 2 diabetes where resistance to insulin is found.
  4. MORD- Mild Obesity Related Diabetes: Also a type 2 diabetes which isn’t so severe & has good prognosis.
  5. MARD- Mild Age Related Diabetes: This is Type 4 diabetes that is seen after 60 years of age.

This is the newly proposed classification of Diabetes & should be referred only for informative purposes. This section will be updated with time.
